Take a Break

Knowing when to take a break, and from what, could be the key to a successful holiday this year. Whether you're burnt out, struggling financially, grieving, or facing a challenge you didn't expect, there are many reasons to step back, slow down, or tweak the plans.

This could look different on a case by case basis, but ultimately it's up to you to decide what is causing the most stress or upset, and what you can tweak to make it better. Put aside all the expectations from others, the things you "should be doing," the things you thought you'd do, and focus on what will make you happier, calmer, or more satisfied in this time.

It may be skipping something and use it to take a break as a self care day. Maybe you need to drive separate to a function so that you are able to leave when you want/need, rather than depending on someone who you carpooled with. This year, you may need to do less in order to preserve your energy for the things that matter most to you. It may be as straight forward as asking someone else for help with the planning, or the hosting. It may be as foundational as having decision making fatigue. Whatever the burden, there is a way to take a break and still have a successful holiday.

So be honest with yourself, do you need a mental break from planning, hosting, or decision-making this year?
