Exit Ramp

As holiday celebrations start and continue on, having an escape plan or a goal to feel safe and comfortable is key to making sure you feel prepared for a challenging time.

If the day becomes overwhelming, what is one simple "exit ramp" I can use?

It could be excusing yourself to a quiet room, taking a walk if weather allows, practicing some grounding or breathing techniques like this one, or asking someone to check in with you throughout the day.

Keeping your phone charged in case you need to make a call or send a quick text for support can provide a quiet safety net if you feel yourself needing a bit more than a normal day. Dedicating a person in your event or outside of the group to check in with you can be a great opportunity to get a bit more support and offer an exit ramp if needed.

As you prepare for a day that may be challenging, lonely, or less holly and jolly than other years, give yourself grace. Reach out for support if or when you feel you could use a little extra. You are not alone, and you are not forgotten.
